El Moro Canyon Trail – Crystal Cove State Beach / Park

This beautiful canyon is located along the coast between Laguna Beach and Newport Beach. Trails are offered for nearly all levels of hikers and mountain bikers. The trail is considered to be a moderate climb, as climbs tend to be on the steep side in some areas. But the climbs are well worth it as they reach stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and Santiago Peak.

17 miles of hiking trails through 2,400 acres of native wilderness make up Crystal Cove State Park. Backpackers can utilize the environmental campgrounds – one in a canyon and two at higher elevations. On the higher trails, you can experience views of vistas, backcountry, geological formations, and a stunning view of the Pacific Ocean. Lower trails will let hikers experience riparian woodlands with oak and sycamore trees as well as Moro Creek. Native plants and animals are a common sight along these trails, giving you a break from civilization and bringing you into the beautiful world and solitude of natural history. If you look closely, you can see fossilized shells on some rocks.

The highlight of this hiking trail is the ups and downs it offers – this means ever-changing views, from the oceans to ridges in the canyon.
