Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park comprises approximately 4,500 acres of wilderness and natural open space land. This area was originally part of Juaneno or Acaichemem tribal land, which was later owned by Don Juan Avila, Louis Moulton, The Mission Viejo Company, and is now under the jurisdiction of OC Parks.
Parklands offer mature oaks, sycamores, and elderberry trees, two year-round streams, and more than 30 miles of official trails for hikers to enjoy. This park is designated as a wildlife sanctuary and is home to many rare and endangered plants.
This park offers something for hikers and mountain bikers of all levels. From easy hikes that introduce children to the beauty of Orange County to more advanced trails that require effort, but it is worth it for the beautiful views at the end.
Each of the many trails offers something different for everyone. Pick a mountain bike trail from beginner to world-class. Explore the Top of the World trail destination for spectacular views of Orange County. The Pecten Reef Loop trail takes you underwater, in a way. Here you can see fossil reef from which Miocene-era dolphins, whales, and other creatures have been recovered. Bring your horse on nearly all of the trails in Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park.
Hike on your own, or join one of the specialized hikes, including Edible Plant Hikes, Trailside Encounters (wildlife tales) hikes, Fitness hikes, and even Yoga hikes!
